Who we are

We are a group of teachers and technologists  who are part of the educational charity makingpi.com and Tech4Nature (1158556).  We have come together to use our skills to help nature at this most critical of times.  The hedgehog republic has been jointly developed with our partners( especially Wild Hogs Hedgehog Rescue Centre).

Gabriel Kyne

I am an engineer, software developer and teacher.  My passion is creating meaningful education which inspires children. All my life I have lived close to nature and found solace in it.  Now I am committed to giving something back to nature using all my skills.

Martin Jakes

Bringing this all together now managing a 5 acre woodland on the Stroud fringe, working towards a resilient and sustainable piece of the Slad Valley landscape, ecologically. for wildlife and for people. Currently developing well being projects alongside hedgehog tech and bee habitat projects.

Jo Bisley

After a career in the NHS organising some of the most complex high volume clinics I founded Wild Hog Hedgehog Rescue Centre. This has been a very rewarding task and I have been able to innovate in the area of hedgehog rescue from prior experience.

Mark Scott

I am a trained zoologist and have been a primary teacher for 30 years. Throughout this time I have been at the forefront of bringing environmental education into the classroom.  I love bringing nature alive for children and so I want there to be some left for future generations.

Aidan Dundson

I have specialised in software development and environmental  analysis for the last 15 years. I am passionate about applying technology to help bring about environmental benefits.

Ben Jarlett

Once a Music Technician at a University, Ben Jarlett has since been developing Drupal Websites for the last 13 years. He has made quite a few online community sites, a website to assist disabled people in complaining about other websites that they are having trouble accessing, a few commerce websites, elearning websites, CRM systems, and many many profile sites. Whilst doing all that he home educated his daughter until she decided to go to school, and still plays bass in a reggae band.

Neil Whitehorn

I  initially qualified as a mathematician and later moved into sound and video engineering for broadcast productions.  My role has enabled me travel extensively and through this I have become acutely aware of how threatened nature is. I just love making clever electronic systems which integrate with software and have had endless hours of fun with Raspberry Pis.

Emily Harper

I qualified as a mathematician and have worked as an analyst and researcher for 15 years. I love nature and I am completing my MSc in Applied Ecology with a focus on hedgehogs. I volunteer with Wild Hogs rescue and the Stroud Wildife Survey group.

Jack Whitehorn

I love all things techy. I have considerable experience with Raspberry Pis and have been actively involved in educating fellow students.  It is a great pleasure to put my skills to helping such a cute little animal.

Evan Small

From a young age, I have been interested in technology and coding. The platform that I have the most experience in using is scratch. I have only ever used my skills for school or fun so this is a new and exciting experience for me.

William Hogg

I am an electronic specialist who has spent the last 20 years in the high performance security sector.  Through this career I have developed many integrated electronic products for security surveillance.  It is particularly gratifying to use these skills to help nature.
